Case Study: Concord Hospital Upgrades Heating System

Hospital Achieves 8-12% Annual Efficiency Savings and Lowers Carbon Emissions

Concord-Hospital-ccdConcord Hospital is a 295-bed acute-care facility that, like most hospitals, never closes. When it comes to treating sick or injured people there’s no time for down time. So as the hospital’s heating system began reaching capacity during cold winter days when heating demand was at its peak, Concord’s facilities management team knew it had to explore new systems options to keep its 24/7 operations running efficiently.

After a comprehensive infrastructure and energy consumption assessment the hospital decided to build a larger, more comprehensive facility in order to meet their growing needs both now and into the future.

Boiler Plant Manager, Gary Powell, recalls, “We hired the engineering firm Fitzemeyer and Tocci, and began the selection of equipment and design of the new building.” Equipment recommendations included three new Superior Boilers using Limpsfield burners and Autoflame® burner controls.

Mechanical Services: Limpsfield and Autoflame Experts

As New England’s exclusive distributor of Limpsfield burners and Maine’s only certified installer of Autoflame control systems, Mechanical Services, Inc. was selected for the implementation of Concord Hospital’s new heating system.

“Concord Hospital was looking to build a new state-of-the-art boiler plant, and they chose Mechanical Services because of our experience with leading-edge technology like Limpsfield and Autoflame,” stated Mechanical Services president, Chris Green. “The technology will not only meet the hospitals’ growing energy needs, it will also help them improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases.”

“The new boilers were fitted with Limpsfield low NOx burners, which provide maximum efficiency with negligible CO emissions,” confirms Gary Powell. “And the Autoflame burner controls allow us to achieve significant fuel and emissions savings versus conventional systems.” The new system is expected to result in annual fuel savings of 8 –12%.
